Hats Off Day: Highlights

We look back on last weekend’s Hats Off Day in Burnaby Heights. Here, a girl at Cioffi’s Meats serves up their famous sausage on a bun.

“Dressed up to the eyes
It’s a wonderful surprise
To see your shoes and your spirits rise.”

-The Cure (from “Friday I’m In Love”)

Although we’ve lived in Burnaby Heights a long time, last weekend was the first time in many years that we’ve been able to go to Hats Off Day together. This is because Mike recently changed his hours so he doesn’t work Saturdays anymore. The greatest benefit of this (besides understanding the amazing joy of TGIF), is that he doesn’t miss out on all those great events that always seem to fall on a Saturday.

And what better way to celebrate this than experience an annual Burnaby event which shuts down blocks of Hastings for a one-day giant neighbourhood party? This is the first time we saw their iconic parade from start to finish, we strolled the streets from end to end, and had a famous sausage on a bun from Cioffi’s Meats. Maybe it comes with age, but we’re feeling a lot of community pride in this great city.

Enjoy our favourite pics here,
