Coo Coo Coffee is the perfect destination when you’re feeling unusually off and “cuckoo” yourself. An opportunity presented itself days ago, when our puppy threw up a record seven times.

Times like this, a newly purchased wet vac more than pays for itself. Like new parents, we patiently cleaned up each new mess, without one word or look of judgment to our poor dog. Finch’s Market is a neighbourhood fixture in Strathcona, the heart of East Van. It’s Stop 123 of our Search for Vancouver’s Best Coffee.

Finch’s Market, if you haven’t been, hides in one of the most fascinating and historic parts of Vancouver – that would be Strathcona. Although this neighbourhood is transforming, you’ll still find something rare here: the oldest, untouched houses in the city.

It’s early morning, so we head out on a walk. We head for the dotted line of the Union-Adanac bike route, an easy two blocks south. Listen and there’s only fragments of sound.
