A week ago, the second location of Buddha-Full opened in North Van’s Northwoods Village. You could say this plant-based eatery is a local triumph of values.

You see, vegan and gluten free can sound limiting – and maybe a concept that’s hard to grasp – to some traditional meat-eaters. But that’s changing with a growing movement. Simply meaning, more people want to eat healthy and delicious food in an appealing space.

And Vancouver cafés are getting very good at filling this void. You’ll find they’re dialing down the hippy-dippy, and turning up the idea that eating conscientiously can be sophisticated, approachable, and dare we say, stylishly aspirational.

Yesterday, we dropped by Café Orso in Deep Cove, North Vancouver to check out their official opening – Stop 16 in our Search for Vancouver’s Best Coffee. When seated, we asked a server about the delicious charcuterie we were enjoying.  Moments later, Jon, one of the friendly owners (his wife is co-owner), came out of the kitchen to shake our hands and introduce himself.
