At Beyond Bread, I sink my teeth into a sacristain. If you haven’t tried, it’s an absurdly long twisty pastry – about as long as my forearm – deliciously dusted with icing sugar. Oddly resembling a knotty branch, or maybe a wizard’s gnarled wand.

Review of Café Lokal: Our Search for Vancouver’s Best Coffee

Perched at a table made of a sewing machine at Café Lokal – an eclectic European-inspired coffee shop that’s the newest addition to Kits on West Broadway. It’s Stop 93 on our weekly Search for Vancouver’s Best Coffee.

It’s our first taste of homemade tiramisu at the new Café Lokal. Mike pauses mid-fork, comments that it tastes very Italian, a thought provoked from that assertive boozy flavour rising on his tongue.

This dessert (admittedly, part of our breakfast) comes across as different from other restaurant creations, in a good way. Reminds me of something made in an old kitchen.
