A week ago, the second location of Buddha-Full opened in North Van’s Northwoods Village. You could say this plant-based eatery is a local triumph of values.

You see, vegan and gluten free can sound limiting – and maybe a concept that’s hard to grasp – to some traditional meat-eaters. But that’s changing with a growing movement. Simply meaning, more people want to eat healthy and delicious food in an appealing space.

And Vancouver cafés are getting very good at filling this void. You’ll find they’re dialing down the hippy-dippy, and turning up the idea that eating conscientiously can be sophisticated, approachable, and dare we say, stylishly aspirational.

We’re on West Broadway for Olive & Ruby Café, which just opened in Kits at the end of September. We slide into street parking. Feed the meter, another weekend of pouring rain, scanning street numbers, glad to see a sandwich board that says all are welcome.
